Support students in the face of a silent coup in Mazandaran university!

A brief summary of confrontations in Mazandaran University

In the past few days, students of Mazandaran University –in north of Iran – face a new wave of suppression that is inflicted by the government against students for maintain strangulation in academic environments. The last manifestation of this is the abduction of student activists. Bijan Sabbagh – a well known left - wing student activist, editor in chief of several magazines – was abducted, under cover government forces on 14th April. Also, on Saturday night, at least fourteen more students – who protested against this abduction – were arrested bye the same. During the same period, another abducted student was released, in a remote suburb in the city of Babol, while his body was broken and shattered.

However, the abductors’ identity is yet to be revealed, the finger of suspicion points at the Ministry of Security forces of the Islamic regime.

Recently 10 of the fifteen arrested students were released. Five are still remained captured. The ten release students are under an immense pressure and being threatened to not contact with anybody. Zia Nabavi one of arrested student has gone to hunger strike. Bijan Sabbagh informed his family the day after his abduction, that he won’t be released soon. The tone of his voice indicated that he has been heavily tortured.

Now, university’s atmosphere is in a total turmoil. Many students of universities around the country have expressed their unconditional support for the freedom of arrested students.
